Every year, the European Forum Cyprus (EFC) provides a platform for 20 to 30 young Cypriot leaders, from all walks of life and from both main communities. While the Forum does not touch on the Cyprus Question, it discusses and analyses issues of vital interest for the future of the whole island within an integrating Europe and with regard to the surrounding region. The Seminars held cover a wide range of themes, such as Cyprus in Europe, climate change and, in particular, the problem of water shortage on the island, economic and educational issues, etc., and are discussed in an independent form, under the Council of Europe umbrella. The discussions are stimulated and inspired by lectures from eminent international and European academics and personalities. By forging a spirit of active and direct interaction amongst participants, the EFC aims, in the long run, to develop good will, trust and faith among the future generations of Cypriot leaders. The project is jointly financed by the European Commission and the Council of Europe, with the political support of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Each seminar is organised in co-operation with a partner, such as the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMED) or the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES). |
